Hello Catholics out there! I grew up in your religion before breaking my ties with the Church as a free-thinking adult with healthy self-esteem. There are so many things in Catholicism that represent the best of humanity, it's spiritual aspirations and practices. That's all the more reason that I cannot imagine how the majority of Catholics today stand by in silence and allow their Church's leader to engage in hate speech. Pope Benedict said today that saving humanity from homosexual or transsexual behavior was just as important as saving the rain forest from destruction.
You must feel so embarrassed when you hear such idiotic, dangerous nonsense spewing forth from your leader. Or do you simply not care? Ignorance of this sort must not stand!
Abolish the archaic, painfully misguided papacy, do away with hate speech and join the 21st Century in peace and love for ALL of humanity. If enough of you stood up to ignorance, you would give your Church the strength to change. This is my Christmas wish!

Here is an excerpt from Barack Obama's Victory Speech:
If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.
It's the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always will be, the United States of America.
It's the answer that led those who have been told for so long by so many to be cynical, and fearful, and doubtful of what we can achieve to put their hands on the arc of history and bend it once more toward the hope of a better day.
It's been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this day, in this election, at this defining moment, change has come to America.

Oh, My Goodness!
From The Daily Dish by Andrew Sullivan, here we have US Republican presidential nominee Senator John McCain (R-AZ) reacting to almost heading the wrong way off the stage after shaking hands with Democratic presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) at the conclusion of the final presidential debate at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, October 15, 2008. Obama Biden 2008
Watching the third Presidential Debate, I feel very sorry for John McCain. Consider Barack Obama. He is composed, articulate, intelligent and compassionate. During the debate, he took the high road, making a consistent effort to maintain focus on the enormous challenges that face America. John McCain looked and behaved like a nasty school boy brat in comparison to our future President. It is important to consider each candidate's demeanor, but that's only part of the story. Consider what their proposals mean to the average American, and Barack Obama clearly comes out on top, especially with regard to health care. John McCain's plans, especially on health care, are far less sound than Barack Obama's. And, perhaps most clearly, John McCain made a disastrous choice for a running mate. Sarah Palin is an idiot.

Farewell to Heath Ledger
Like so many people around the world, I was stunned and saddened to hear the news of Heath Ledger's passing in NYC on Tuesday. I feel grateful for all the fine acting he shared with us in his films.
